A New England native, Doug traveled west to attend the University of Utah. He fell in love with this beautiful state and never left.
As an avid cyclist, outdoors-man, and skilled mechanic, Doug was able to combine his love for all three into a business when he opened the Highlander Bike Shop in 1978. It was the beginning of the Mountain Bike craze. Today the family business prospers due to a cadre of loyal customers who appreciate Doug’s steady hand and practical advice.
Son of Doug, Max started hanging around the shop as a child and never left! He’s an excellent bike mechanic, the shop’s resident artist, a patient listener and the owner of what has to be one of the longest and most-photographed beards in the state!
